Before founding Management Consultants for the Arts (MCA) in 1983, Gregory Kandel spent 10 years in arts management, both in the field and as a consultant to dance companies, theaters, orchestras, and other performing arts organizations.
In 1974, he founded Northlight Theater, a professional regional theatre in the Chicago area, and was its producing director. Four years later, he co-founded the League of Chicago Theatres, a trade association encompassing commercial, not-for-profit, educational, and community theater companies, and was its first chairman.
At MCA, Mr. Kandel has served a diverse group of clients, such as the Guthrie Theater, New England Conservatory of Music, Trisha Brown Company, The Joyce Theater, the Center for Photography at Woodstock, the Hopkins Center at Dartmouth College, Creative Time, and Poets and Writers. He has assisted numerous arts organizations as a National Endowment for the Arts advancement consultant. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan and Northwestern University.
