Professor Adjunct of Technical Design and Production & Costume Shop Manager

Tom McAlister, Professor Adjunct of Technical Design and Production, has served as the Costume Shop Manager for Yale School of Drama and Yale Repertory Theatre since 1989 and teaches Costume Production, Advanced Costume Production, and Fabrics and Fabric Manipulation. In his forty plus year career, he has designed for The Juilliard School, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Yale Repertory Theatre, as well as worked on such varied world premieres as Paula Vogel’s Desdemona: A Play About A Handkerchief (Circle Repertory Theatre/Bay Street Theatre), The Great Gatsby (Metropolitan Opera Company), 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (Broadway), Muppet Babies On Tour (Jim Henson Productions), and Wayne’s World 2. Mr. McAlister has had the pleasure of dressing such actors as Colleen Dewhurst, Christopher Walken, Blythe Danner, Sam Waterston, and Dianne Wiest, among others.  Theatre credits also include productions at The Public Theater, Playwrights Horizons, Manhattan Theatre Club, Actors Theatre of Louisville, ART, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Boston Lyric Opera, and Houston Grand Opera.
